Lake Tahoe Heated Driveways and Snow Melting Systems

Industry Leading Systems   ●   Local Installer Network   ●   Free Installation Training   ●   Unmatched Customer Service

Radiant heat offers safety, flexibility, and comfort for both business and residential applications. Snow melting systems can be easily customized and installed in driveways, loading ramps, steps, sidewalks, bridges, and more. It makes sense to enjoy the benefits of radiant heat in areas that receive an abundance of snow, such as Lake Tahoe.

Winter scene in the Sierra Nevada mountains

It’s no wonder that Mark Twain loved Lake Tahoe and its surroundings. Like those who live here now, Twain regarded Lake Tahoe as “The fairest picture the whole world affords.” While the average snowfall of arround 125 inches (at lake level), may sound like anything but “fair” to some people, the abundant snow is exactly what most snowboarding and ski-happy residents love.

But as fun as gliding down the slopes may be, gliding down your driveway in your car (or on your keister) may not be so fun, or safe. Certainly, driving in Tahoe’s winter conditions can present challenges. Some Lake Tahoe residents – as well as the Department of Transportation – have installed radiant heat to offset the inconveniences and enhance safety. The most common application is for homeowners to install a radiant heated driveway. Radiant snow melting systems are reliable, fully automated and easy to customize. These features make the systems ideal for applications that depend on reliability, such as the recently installed heated runaway truck ramp overlooking Lake Tahoe. The versatile systems can be installed for just about any snow melting application.

The Benefits of Working with Warmzone

The key to an effective, worry-free radiant heated driveway is proper installation. Consumers can purchase system components from a variety of providers, but few – if any – can match the quality of the products and provide the wealth of customer services and support as Warmzone. Knowing that proper installation is vital for consumers to enjoy the full benefits of a heated driveway, Warmzone provides FREE installation training, technical support, and a detailed AutoCAD design and layout of the system. The system design contains all the technical and electrical information necessary for the electrician and installers. You’ll know everything you need prior to installing any heat cable.

This kind of customer support is vital for consumers - and it's what sets Warmzone apart from other radiant heat providers. Warmzone builds relationships by standing with the customer well after the purchase. We work with your electrician and installer to help ensure that the system is installed correctly and performing as it should. That’s why we’ve established ourselves as an industry leader. We truly value customer service, and it shows in the repeat business we have with contractors and installers. In fact, Warmzone also maintains a database of contractors in your area who have experience installing radiant heat, and have received positive reviews. This way, we may be able to recommend a trusted, experienced, local installer when you’re ready to move forward with your project.

How Heated Driveway Snow Melting Systems Work

Radiant heated driveway after a snowstorm

Warmzone driveway heating systems feature three main components: an activation device (snow sensor), heating element (heat resistance cable), and controller (contactor panel). Warmzone offers only the most trusted, industry-leading components. A typical heated driveway uses the WS-2C aerial-mount snow sensor. This advanced device is housed in a weatherproof enclosure that is only 4.75 inches tall, 7 inches wide and less than 3 inches deep. It has a moisture grid on top and a temperature sensor on the bottom. When the unit detects precipitation and the temperature is below the adjustable trigger point (usually set at 38 or 39 degrees), a signal is sent to the contactor panel and heat is then sent to the embedded cable in the driveway. The driveway is then heated, preventing the buildup of snow and ice.

These automated systems also feature an “afterrun” function. This allows the driveway to continue heating for a short time after the storm to dry the driveway. This safety feature eliminates dangerous ice from forming. The sensor also has manual override capability. This is handy for times if/when wind blows snow onto the driveway or snowdrifts form, allowing the owner to activate the system for a short time to clear the area.

Radiant snowmelt systems are maintenance free and environmentally friendly. And because radiant snow melting systems can be easily customized, the systems are tailored to meet the specific needs of each customer. If heating the entire driveway is not practical for you, a more affordable option is to install two heated tire tracks. Or, you may opt to install heat only in the area(s) – such as an incline – where you need it most.
